Operations Manager

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to plan, direct, and coordinate JEM Engineering’s administrative and manufacturing operations. You will be responsible for improving performance, productivity, efficiency, and profitability through the implementation of effective methods and strategies. You will manage a team of managers, supervisors, and other direct reports. You will implement policies and programs, guiding JEM in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the quality of its operation. You will direct activities such that approved products are manufactured on schedule and within quality standards.

 

FLSA Status: Exempt

Travel: Up to 10%

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or related major
  • 5+ years of applicable work experience as Operations Manager
  • Proven track record of optimizing organizational effectiveness
  • Budget development oversight, and forecasting experience
  • Familiarity with business and financial principles, as well as practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels/departments and from diverse technical backgrounds
  • Leadership and organizational skills
  • Computer skills for IT management

    Essential Functions:

    • Prioritizing customer needs and ensuring customer requirements are met
    • Ensuring that all workings are manufactured in a correct, cost effective, and timely manner, in alignment with specifications and quality management system requirements
    • Implementing and improving operational systems, processes and best practices that guarantee organizational well-being
    • Overseeing materials purchase and inventory management, ensuring warehouse efficiency
    • Overseeing quality control and monitoring production KPI’s
    • Contributing towards the achievement of company’s strategic and operational objectives
    • Increasing company profitability by examining financial data/statements and determining points of improvement
    • Recruiting, training, supervising, and appraising staff resources

    Engineering Project Manager

    We are seeking a highly skilled Engineering Project Manager with sufficient experience with a variety of current manufacturing processes, as well as an understanding of the principles and best practices of management/supervision. A strong candidate would have sound knowledge of antenna and/or RF theory and experimentation.

    The Engineering Project Manager will be responsible for not only developing strategic programs, policies, procedures, and standards for day-today activities, but also for creating evaluation tools to measure the effectiveness of each engineering project and its progression. Under the President’s general supervision, the Engineering Project Manager would also develop and monitor budgets. Based on their findings, the Engineering Project Manager would be tasked with updating the Executive Branch with information pertaining to program completion, resource allocation, profitability, and strategic overview of all current project. Additionally, they would provide technical advice and/or supervision to staff, other departments, as well as other agencies involved within each project.

     

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    Travel: Up to 25%

     

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • 2+ years of applicable work experience as Engineering Program Manager OR 6+ years of experience performing the essential functions listed above
    • Experience with a variety of current manufacturing processes

      Essential Functions:

      • Responding to technical questions are requests from customers, prioritizing customer needs and ensuring their requirements are met
      • Managing multiple tasks, often with competing deadlines
      • Handling difficult and sensitive situations, using sound, independent judgment within general JEM Engineering guidelines
      • Implementing strategic goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards where applicable for all programs
      • Developing the overall budget for each project, overseeing financial solvency of all the programs by analyzing cost effectiveness and exercising cost controls; prepares, submits, and justifies budget to the Executive Branch
      • Planning, organizing, administering, reviewing, and evaluating the work of subordinate professional, technical, and support staff
      • Reviewing all records related to the evaluation, control, and documentation of assigned projects
      • Preparing a variety of written correspondence, reports, procedures, and other materials and submitting them to applicable parties
      • Ensuring that engineering projects are completed in the most cost effective, and timely manner, in alignment with outlined specifications and applicable quality management system requirements
      • Supporting the engineering and production staff
      • Other duties assigned by Vice President of Engineering

       

      Antenna Engineer I

      We are seeking a proactive and enthusiastic individual to join our team of experienced antenna engineers, skilled technicians, and RF experts. The Antenna Engineer I will be the principal engineer for multiple antenna product development programs. With guidance from their fellow engineers and technician support, they will be tasked with seeing their assigned projects through to fruition, from the conceptualization and design phase, to planning and executing projects, to fine-tuning working antenna prototypes and manufacturable products. The Antenna Engineer I would also support antenna testing and help improve existing antenna designs to meet requirements on domestic and international projects.

       

      FLSA Status: Exempt

      Travel: Up to 20%

       

      Minimum Qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field
      • <1 year of applicable work experience as an Antenna Engineer OR 3+ years of experience performing the essential functions listed above
      • Experience with a variety of current manufacturing processes
      • Solid computer skills
      • Ability to learn new skills quickly
      • Computer modeling and simulation experience
      • Understanding of R&D processes
      • Demonstrated ability to meet aggressive goals
      • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively

          Essential Functions:

          • Responding to technical questions are requests from customers, prioritizing customer needs and ensuring their requirements are met
          • Contributing to written proposals, technical reports, and technical briefings when necessary
          • Conceptualizing, planning, and executing projects that lead to working antenna prototypes and manufacturable products using JEM technician support
          • Performing essential product development activities such as fabrication, modification, and evaluation of components
          • Operating computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment
          • Co-developing new designs for broadband microwave antenna
          • Supports efforts within antenna ranges and programs
          • Ensuring that activities are completed in a timely manner, as well as in compliance with specifications and applicable quality management system requirements

          Electrical Engineer II

          We are is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our growing team of veteran antenna engineers, skilled technicians, and RF experts. This is a unique role, in which one will have the unique opportunity to contribute to a broad array of projects, ranging from hardware design to RF testing. Under the supervision of senior engineers, the Electrical Engineer II will collaborate with a team of other electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers throughout the product research and development cycle.

          Minimum Qualifications:

          • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent OR Associate’s Degree and 3+ years experience
          • >1 year of applicable work experience as an Electrical Engineer OR 3+ years of experience performing the essential functions listed above
          • Hands-on experience with design assembly, analysis and testing in a lab environment
          • Solid computer skills

              • Performing detailed electronic/RF/Microwave hardware design
              • Software-based analysis and design using computational electromagnetic (EM), mechanical CAD, and/or other software tools
              • Fabricating and assembling of engineering prototypes
              • Electrical testing of circuits, components, and antennas using network analyzers and antenna test chambers
              • Analyzing and presenting of test data using tools such as Excel and MATLAB
              • Writing Detailed documentation of test plans, test reports, and project reports
              • Providing engineering support as needed throughout the life cycle of a project
              • Preparing presentation materials to report project status and progress
              • Working under the guidance and supervision of senior engineers
              • Supervising technicians on a project basis
              • Working in small engineering teams

               

              Mechanical Engineer II

              We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team of experienced mechanical engineers, skilled technicians, and RF experts.  JEM produces cutting-edge antenna systems that integrate novel electromechanics into exciting platforms.  The Mechanical Engineer II will design components of these systems including machined, injection molded, additive, composite, and formed sheet metal parts, as well as printed wiring boards, electronic components, and interconnects.  The mechanical engineers ensure system requirements are met by producing concise documentation and performing thorough design verification and testing.  JEM offers a unique opportunity in that employees participate in whole-system design from conception through manufacture and enjoy exposure to multiple engineering disciplines.  Candidates will need the ability to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance.

              Radio Frequency Technician IV

              We are seeking an experienced Radio Frequency Technician to join our growing antenna engineering firm located in Laurel, MD. In this role, you will not only test antennas, but also have the unique opportunity to contribute to a broad array of leading-edge antenna development projects. The RF Technician IV will work under immediate supervision. They will rely on instruction and pre-established guidelines to perform the function of the job.

               

              FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

              Minimum Qualifications:

              • AS in Engineering or equivalent with ten (10) years’ relevant technical experience which may include hands-on fabrication to specifications using general shop equipment (i.e. bandsaw, table saw, drill press, etc.)
              • Troubleshooting experience
              • Knowledge of antenna testing equipment
              • Strong verbal and written communication skills
              • Experience with MS Office software package (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
              • Experience with a variety of current manufacturing processes
              • Ability to to communicate clearly with customers and antenna engineers
              • Ability to work with employees at all levels
              • Demonstrated ability to meet aggressive project goals
              • Team player
              • Strong work ethic, including ability to work independently

                Preferred Qualifications:

                • Familiarity with AutoCAD
                • Knowledge of antenna and/or RF theory and experiments
                • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the antenna industry
                • Soldering experience

                  Essential Functions:

                  • Collaborative development and fabrication of prototype designs based on engineering specifications
                  • Setting up, checking and correcting operational and experimental electrical machinery, circuitry, and equipment adhering to pre-established guidelines of the organization’s engineering specifications
                  • Other duties assigned by your supervisor to assist the JEM Engineering team
